ANNUAL REPORT
MENTAL HYGIENE CONGRESS.
The auuual report of the New Zealand branch of the British Medical Association, which will be presented at the annual meeting of the associatioa at Christchurch on the 18th inst., states that during the year 34 new members were added to the roll. The membership of the branch now numbers- 921. Drs. C. E. Anson and John Ewart were elected honorary, members of the branch, in consideration of their long and honourable association therewith and of valuable services rendered by them in. past years.
A circular letter was sent to all divisions inviting them to express their views on a hospital policy for the New Zealand branch, definite points or headings being submitted for their consideration. Replies have since been received from tho majority of the divisions, and a digest of the replies has been despatched to all divisions in order that they may be prepared for final discussion at the annual meeting1.
Towards the close of the year, at the - instance of tho Otago division, the council approached the Minister of Health and the- Minister of Education. with a recommendation that New Zealand should bo represented at the fiesn congress on mental hygiene, to be held at Washington in May next. The reply, of the Government was to the effect that the matter had been considered and it had been decided, to take no action. The Council of the BritiUi Medical Association expresses the hope that this important matter may receive reconsideration by tho Government, and that the recommendation may ultimately bo adopted;
