EFFORT AT FLIGHT
MESSAGE FROM WILKINS
PLANS DEPEND ON WEATHER
LONDON, 28th January.
The following copyright message has been received from Sir Hubert Wilkins from Deception Island, dated 27th January: "Wo will make two or three more exploration flights if we aro successful in the race against the rapid approach of unfavourable weather. The shi t , William Scoresby, with a Lockliead monoplano on floats, leavos here to-day for a point westward of Peter Island, which will bo our hopping-off point for tho flight. The trip lasts about three weeks. We hope to reach new land in the far southward. If we locate ice suitable for skis we will equip the 'plane with them and fly over the Ross Sea. All our plans depend on the weather. Desperate attempts against the weather as late" in the season as thig would be unwarranted, as a rescue would be difficult If an accident happened."
