SUCCESS OF BETTY
, (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, 29th January. The competing boats for the Sanders Clip and the Canterbury boat Betty provided the chief interest in the Anniversary Day regatta to-day. They took part in two events, the Lipton Cup in the inorning. and the Eoss Cup in the afternooa, Betty winning both.
Tn tho Lipton Cup Betty led off the wind, but when the boats flattened sheets Avalon (Auckland) passed her and beat her in by over a minute. Colleen (Canterbury) was third, Clyde (Wellington) fourth, and Eileen (Otago) fifth. The skipper of Avalon reported fouling a mark off the western wall and was disqualified, Betty being declared the winner. The southern *oats, espeeially_ Clyde ana Eileen, were eery disappointing, never being prominent. The finishing times were as follow: Avalon, llhr 59min 50sec; Betty, 12hr lmin 15sec; Colleen, I2hr llmin 32sec; Clyde, 12hr 12min 14decj Eileen, 12hr 12min 24see.
In the Boss Cup race Betty was first away, but was passed by Colleen, Which hold first position until just before reaching the next mark, where sho was passed by Avalon. Beating up to the top mark, Colleen regained her position, and Betty replaced Avalon, with Eileen and Clyde in that order. Sunning down the harbour, Betty overtook Colleen and led for the remainder of the race. The finishing times woro n* follow: Betty, 3hr 42min 38see; Colleoii, 3hr 44min 45see; Avalon,, 3hr 48tain 13sec; Eileen 3hr 48inin 15sec; Clyde, 3hr 49min 7sec.
