SYDNEY, This Day. From 1924-25 to 1928-29 exports of produce and merchandise from Australia fell from £159,957,124 sterling to £140,942,670. This serious decline, not only with overseas j countries, but also with the Dominions, resulted in the Minister of Markets, Mr. Maloney, asking Cabinet to establish a commercial intelligence service abroad. Officials attributed the present adverse trade balance to the fact that Australia neglected to advertise extensively overseas. Between 1926 and 1928 export trade to New Zealand fell from £5,059,779 to £3,868,281. Canada's exports to New Zealand correspondingly increased.
