HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL

A meeting of the Hutt County Council was held yesterday, Mr. D. R. Hoggard presiding. Others present were Messrs. A. Mackay, W. V. Dyer, S. B. Blackley, F. Bradey, J. H. Whiteman, H. R. Robinson (county clerk), H. Sladden (engineer), and H. Dyer (overseer).

The county overseer's report stated that there were issued during December 29 building permitß to the value of £4801, and 23 motor licences, an increase from 910 to 933. The sanitary inspector's report was that there were three cases of diphtheria and one of tuberculosis in the district.

A discussion took place on the weight limits on roads, and cases were cited in which the weight limit wbb exceeded on various class roads. Mr. Hoggard said that in some instances the limit was unreasonable, and should be enforced or abolished. A report gave a specific instance in which the limit was broken on ' the Hutt-Waikanae road, which was a fourth-class road. . Finally it was decided to ask for a comprehensive report to be drawn up giving the classification of all roads.

It was decided to make it a recommendation to the district engineer that a protruding corner on the Moonshine road would be a suitable work for the unemployed A request from the Town Clerk; Wellington, to appoint two traffic inspectors for 18th, 20th, and 22nd January, was agreed to. The dog tax for 1930 was fixed as 2s 6d for sheep and cattle dogs, and 10s for other dogs. The following resolution was agreed to: "That pursuant to section 76 of the Rating Act, 1925, an additional charge of 10 per cent, should be added to all rates for the financial year ending on 31st March, 1930, and unpaid at the expiration of six months and 14 days from demand thereof" (15th February). It was notified that heavy traffic fees received to date amounted to £3923 6s sd.
