STRONG IN BATTING
NEW ZEALAND'S TEAM
(By "Not Out") The team to represent New Zealand in the Second Test match with M.0.C., which commences at the Basin Reserve next Friday, has been altered a little from that "which played in the First Test at Christchurch. H. Foley, A. W. Roberts, and M. Henderson have been replaced by J. E. Mills, G. L. Weir, and E. McLeod. Although the team at Ctristchurch was capable of a much better batting performance than that which was registered, . the indications are that the changes made for the secmd Test will improve the batting strength. Weir, who won the Eedpath Cup last season, showed a return to form in the Canterbury-Auckland match by scoring a century, and Mills made a big three-figure score in the Otago-Auckland match, while McLeod, who was twelfth man for New Zealand in the first Test, gave a good all-round performance for Wellington against M.C.C. The inclusion of McLeod in the second Test team will provide a little more' of ihe bowling which appears to be most effective against the Englishmen, but the dropping of Henderson is going to throw a. heavier task on Dickinson, and it might also mean some harder work for Badcock. With Hendtrson out, a chance might have been given to McGirr, a good bowler of the fast-medium type, and a player of considerable value for a big occasion. It was only at the last minute that Mills was reported to be available, and this no doubt meant thai another player lost a chance of gaining New Zealand representative honours. Tho team is a good one, and can be expected to perform to much better advantage than was the case at- Christchurch. It is anticipated that under favourable conditions the visitors will find tho Now Zealanders quite a different proposition at Wellington." In view of the number of calls being made upon players this season, the chances are that there will be further changes for the third Test at Auckland. HOURS OP PLAY. Tho second Test is. to start at 11.30 a.m. on Friday and it will be a threedays' match. The hours of play each day will be: 11.30 a.m. tc 1.15 p.m., 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and 4.15 p.m. \,o 6 p.m. An announcement regarding the issue of a special souvenir programme for the Test match is made elsewhere in this issue.
