TO ATTRACT TOURISTS
A VIGOROUS CAMPAIGN
"VERY BEST BEING DONE"
It would, nowadays, be difficult to scan the columns of any representative daily or weekly newspaper without finding a write-up of some .particular attraction which has helped to draw visitors. New Zealand, which has always drawn an abundance of tourists and fishermen, has been keen to advertise its wares. Besides advertising in the Dominion, Australia has been exploited. ( The Minister in Charge of Tourist and Publicity Departments (the Hon. P. A. clo la Perrelle) stated to-day that it had been decided to carry out a vigorous campaign specially advertising the Bluff-Melbourne service, and the advantage the service offers to .the people of Australia to make a tour of the famous resorts' of the South Island at a moderate cost. "In line with our famous North Island resorts,'' said the Minister, "the very best is being done; both islands have attractions which are famed throughout the world. The executive officers of the departments report that the projected tours of the South which will embrace the Jakes region, the fiords, Mount Cook, and other places, will be fixed ou an inclusive charge basis so that those undertaking them will know exactly what the cost is to be from the outset. I have made arrangements for Mr. S. J. Collett, acting general manager of the Tourist Department, to collaborate with Mr. A. H. Messenger, Publicity Officer, and Mr. E. M. Firth, of the New Zealand Melbourne Office, to complete arrangements for the immediate launching of a scheme which is to include window displays, special cinema shows, and advertising in the leading daily newspapers of the various States of the Commonwealth, and also in Tasmania. I feel ' convinced that with the plans ahead we will have very many more visitors to our shores than we have had in the pastJ"
