FAILURE TO ACCOUNT
CANVASSER CHARGED
While working as a canvasser for. a hosiery firm last year, Conway Davenport, in the course of his duty, collected £1 17s 6d but he did not hand the money .over to his firm, Clarke and Young, Ltd. Charged before Mr. T. B. M'Jfeil, S.M., to-day with failing to account for this money, Davenport pleaded guilty. Detective-Sergeant Holmes said that when taxed the accused said l\e must have cashed the cheque in an hotel. The accused had been before the Court previously on a charge o£ theft, and had been granted twelve months' probation. The Probation Officer (Mr. T. P. Mills) said that the accused had been a satisfactory probationer, and the offence with which he was now charged was committed prior to that for which he was granted probation. Davenport was granted twelve months' probation a condition being that he makes restitution.
