KUMBH-MELA PILGRIMS
IN GANGES AT ALLAHABAD
INDIA'S GREATEST FESTIVAL
DELHI, 16th January.
A million and a half pilgrims have gathered for the Kumbh-Mela, India's greatest festival, which is held at Allahabad every twelve years, at a point in front of tho port where the Ganges and Jumma meet. At the opening of the festival yesterday ten thousand people stood waist deep in the sacred Ganges, with hundreds of thousands standing on the banks to greet the dawn. A great roar of "Earn Earn" went up from the multitude upon glimpsing the sun's first beams. Tho immersion continues for several days.
