THEFT FROM THE BLIND
AN INSTITUTE PORTER . (By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. Archibald Stuart M'Bean, aged 33, a porter at tho Jubilee Institute fov the Blind, pleaded guilty to stealing 10s from an inmate. The police said that during the last three months there had been thefts from blind men's clothes. A trap was set, a partially blind-man being given a note which he dropped on the lloor in his room. M'Bean put his foot on it slyly, dropped a handkerchief over the note, and picked-it up. Later it was found to have been cashed in the Newmarket Hotel. The Magistrate (Mr. Hunt) remanded the accused in custody for a week to enable a report to be^ obtained from the Probation Officer.
