WELLINGTON HARBOUR BOARD

the jubilee picnic of tho Wellington Harbour Board staff was held at Trentham Kacocourse yesterday. The weather was dull, but wlt^! tha exception of X heavy shower at about 3.15 p.m. tie rain kept off.

Among, those present were: Messrs. J. W. M'^jweu (chairman of the board), J. Marchbanks (general manager and chief engineer), T. R. Barrer, Captain C. E. Post, and Mr. A. G. Barnett (secretary). The attendance was Kood, and exceeded that at the annual picnic last year. The Port Nicholson Band was present., popular selections played being much appreciated. A large programme of sports events was run off, and many closo finishes were witnissed. Two races in particular, the 100 yards W.H.B. championship, and the committeemen's, race, created a good deal of interest, the former being won by R. M'Leod. The latter was. a fine contest, r. Fox, the wiuner, breasting the tape with about flvo feet to spare. In Addition to running events, the children were kefct well occupied with a "Punch and Judy" shw, rounders, skittles, slides, and games of other descriptions. An ambulance competition between two Harbour Board teams resulted in a 'win for that comprising T. Kolfo (No. 1). 1, G V'Koss, B. Aisher, and R. H. Niuholl. Tho successful team gained 90 points, the other S'J. Mr. I. W. Ward,.-district officer of tho St. Jojin, Ambulance Brigade, was judge. The programme for tho day was carried out without a hitch, and there was. never a dull moment, 'this reflecting credit on Mr. N. A. Ingram, plcnib v secretary, and his band of helpers. Just prior to the presentation of tho prizes by Mr. .T. Marchbanlis, Mr. J. W. M'Bwen expressed hig-'.pleasure at the success of the gathering, and congratulated; those responsible. On behalf of the committee, Mr. U. Alexander replied to the remarks of tho chairman, thanking the board for a generous donation, which had gone to make the picnic the decided success in had been. Mr. Marchbanks also congratulated the committee before distributing tho prizes. On, the motion of Mr. W. A. Ingram, secretary of- the picnic committee, a voto of thanks was passed to tho Wellington Bacing Club for the use of. the grounds.
