THE VITAL STATISTICS

NELSON, 7th January.
At a meeting of the Nelson 'Defence Bifle Club rcgrot was. expressed at the loss the club had sustained through the death of Mr. J. Sharland, who was one of tho oldest members, highly respected, and known throughout New Zealand in the sport. A motion of sympathy with his family and relatives was carried in silence, members standing. Mr. E. S. Frost, on tho staff of tho Nelson branch of tho Public Trust Office for four years, leaves at the week-end on transfer to tho Christchurch branch.
During December 22 births, nine deaths, and nine marriages wore registered at Nelson. In tho year 1929 there wero 39 Igss marriages than in 1925. The figures for 1929 were: 289 births, 85 marriages, and 188 deaths; the 1928 figures wore 288 births, 124 marriages, and 17tS deaths.
