TO-NIGHT'S SPORTS AT TH BASIN
The diversity of events and the quality of_ the competitors taking part give promise of very entertaining sport at the Wellington Amateur . Athletic .'Centre's electric light meeting at the Basin Reserve to-night. A big attraction will be the appearance of M. Leadbetter, former New Zealand sprint champion; who: is in' Wellington from Christchurch on -Holiday. There has been quite an amount of.'speculation as to Leadbetter's intentions regarding active competition'this season—as to whether he will be a competitor again at the New Zealand championship meeting. On New Year's Day at Paraparauma he" showed to advantage, and to-night, when he will be pitted against the local champion, C. H. Jenkins, and J._T. FleminK, ■who is showing some of his old dash, there should be some keen racing.- Keen competition may also be expected in'the cycle exents, in which M. Gane and other leading riders will.be taking part. Then, there are the ladies' races,. TivitlOsuch. wellknown performers'as Miss Kench.'Miss Miller. Miss J. Murray, b.nd Miss J. Willson competing. As ah added attraction there will be races for whippets, botlr on the flat and over hurdles.
