Don Bradman 's achievement in breaking the world's record for the highest score in a first-class match has been given headlines in Australian newspapers. The crowd on the ground gave him a wonderful ovation lasting many minutes. Good judges freely concede that his brilliance and resourcefulness stamp him as the champion batsman of our day. Even when facing the crack bowler Hurwood he declined to let up.
Tho previous, holder of the world's record was Ponsford, who scored 437 against Queensland in December, 1927. Bradman's innings is much better than Ponsford's, as Bradman's 452 not out was made in 406 minutes, compared with Ponsford's 437 in 621 minutes.
Bradman is the only batsman who has twice exceeded 300 on a Sydney ground. Bradman compiled some of his runs to-day in hurricane-like fashion, while the partnership between .himself and M'Cabe, who batted stylishly, is .described as the most entertaining witnessed here for many years. Both are mere youths in tho 'twenties. Congratulatory telegrams for Bradman reached the Cricket Ground from all over Australia.
