DEAR FRUIT
I am, etc., . . JUSTICE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —It is time that the .people of Wellington joined in raising a protest in connection with the price o£ fruit in Wellington and suburbs. Unfortunately I, lika several others, were compelled to do our Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve, and I was amazed at the price of fruit for this time of the year (say nothing of vegetables). The prices of strawberries were raised from Is lOd to 3s per basket the same day. Needless to say, I did not buy, but voiced, my opinion at the time, and the shopkeeper smiled. Fruit is too dear in this country. The wireless imnouncer informs us to-night "over thfc air" that the Hutt tomatoes brought 4d to 7d per.lb (wholesale). I have not seen a shop to-day with Hutt tomatoes in their windows otter than Is 2d and Is 4d per lb (retail). What hope has the working man with a family of buyi ing fruit at these prices?-
