WORK AT ARAPUNI
BY-PASS RE-LINED
A SUCCESSFUL TRIAL
(By Telegraph.—Press Association,)
AUCKLAND, This Day.
Work on the By-pass tunnel at Arapuni has been completed. Last week a most successful experimental trial was carried out, and a great volume of water -was released through the newly-lined escape. The Hon. E..A. Ransom, Minister of Public Works, stated in an interview to-day that the Engineer-in-Chief, Mr. F. W. Furkert,. had reported a few days ago that the re-lining of the by-pass tunnel had been successfully effected. The Minister said the progress made on the work at Arapuni was most gratifying. The anxiety experienced a few months ago in consequence of the erosion at the spillway' had been allayed. It was hoped that it would never be necessary to use the by-pass tunnel, but it was reassuring to know that this channel was available in the event of the waterflow becoming too great.
