FINE WEATHER
BUT SQUALLY WINDS
Fair to cloudy weather with rising temperatures has been the Dominion's lot as a whole for the past 24 hours, but owing to the direction of the wind, West or north-west, scattered rain has fallen in western and southern districts of the South Island. Most of these falls have been light, but Arthur's Pass had as much as 203 points of rain yesterday. An anti-cyclono extends from Eastern Australia to New Zealand, but its southern edge is being skirted by a series of low pressure waves. Owing to the passage of one of these waves over the southern portion of New Zealand last night, strong and squally winds have prevailed south of New Plymouth and Castlepoint. The present indications point to a •continuance of fair to fine weather over the greater part of the country. Moderate to strong south-west to north-west winds will bo squally at times in and south of Cook Strait. Scattered rain may fall- in districts with a westerly aspect, from Taranaki southward, and in coastal regions in Otago and Southland. Mild temperatures will be general, and in eastern districts it will be warm.
