AUSTRALIAN TARIFF REGRETTED.

Information was recently published o£ a resolution of regret passed by the oversea committee of the Federation of British Industries concerning the recent additions to the Australian tariff. The Australian Association of British Manufacturers has received the full text of the resolution, which is as follows: — "The committee notes with profound regret the recent heavy increases in the Australian tariff,-which will have an adverse effect upon reciprocal trade between Great Britain and Australia, firstly by impeding the sale of British goods in Australia to the detriment of British manufacturers, with the further effect of rendering this country less capahle of purchasing Australian products; and secondly by still further increasing the economic difficulties, thus rendering more difficult her obtaining as freely as in the past the ■necessary financial means of development. The committee considers that the resulting conditions, viz., high cost of living, difficulties of finance, and high production costs, will in future discourage British manufacturers from establishing industries in the Commonwealth."
