For the first time representatives o^ industry, commerce, and shipping ara combining together to examine the question of Inter-Imperial trade with' the hope of being able to present tha concerted views of the business community to the. Imperial Conference next year. This represents a great step forward in the business organisation of this country. The Association of British Chamber? of Commerce, the Federation of British; Industries, and the Chamber of Shipping of the United Kingdom—representing the commercial, industrial, and shipping interests of this country—• have arranged to form a British Preparatory Committee to consider the general question of Empire commercial policy, with the object of co-ordinat-ing as far as possible the views of the business community of the TJnitedf Kingdom and of presenting to His Mai jesty's Government joint recommenda* tions on all questions upon which unt animity of opinion can bo obtained. Each of the organisations represent* ed has appointed its own Preparatory Committee, whose preliminary conclusions will be communicated to the Bri» tisli Preparatory Committee for joint consideration. The members of the committee sol far nominated include the following:— The Association of British' Chambers of Commerce: Sir Gilbert Vyle, ex-. president; Sir Edward Iliffe, C.8.E.,----vice-president; Sir Francis Joseph^ C.8.E., president of the North Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce; Mr* B. B. Dunwoody, C.8.E., secretary. Tho Federation, of British Industries:' Sir Arthur Duckham, G.8.E., chairman. F. 8.1., Preparatory Committee; Sir Roland Nugent, director; Mr. Guy Locock, C.M.G., deputy director; Mr. Moiv Mackenzie, Empire department. The Chamber of Shipping of the United Kingdom: Sir William Currie^ president; Sir Alan Anderson, K.8.E., ex-president. Informal meetings of the committed have already taken place, and the first formal meeting will bo held shortly, when tho personnel will be completed and a programmo.for the committee'^ work laid down. . - .
