The deep depression which was covering New Zealand on Saturday was still centred east of the South Island early on Sunday morning, but during the day it moved rapidly eastwards. With rising pressure southerly winds became general and temperatures decidedly cooler. Rain fell in most districts during Saturday and Sunday, and at places the falls were heavy. Last night, however, only scattered showers were reported and since then the weather has improved almost generally. By 9 a.m. to-day tho winds had again veered to northerly from Cook Strait southwards.
