AMATEUR ATHLETICS

ELECTRIC LIGHT MEETING. The Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre's sports meeting, which was to have been held solne weeks ago but was postponed owing to rain, is to take place at the Basin Reserve on Wednesday night. An excellent programme has been arranged, provision .having been made for events which are entertaining as well us those which provide thrills. Added inter: est will be given to the sprint events by the appearance of M. Leadbetter, the former New Zealand champion, who will measure strides with C. Jenkins and J. Fleming, both o| whom are in splendid form. The ladies' events will also be keenly contested, large entries having been received. Gane will be put to the test again in the cycling events, in which there should be some fine displays. Still another feature of the. meeting will be the whippet racing. The dogs will appear in hurdle as well as flat events.
