CUSTOMS PORTFOLIO
TAKEN BY MR, DONALD
In reference to the readjustments of Ministerial portfolios consequent upoa the appointment of tho Hon. T. M. Wilford as High Commissioner, tha Prime Minister (the Eight Hon. Sir Joseph Ward) further announced to-day, that the Hon. Mr. Taverner had relinquished the portfolio of Minister of Customs, and that His Excellency tha Governor-General had appointed the Hon. Mr. Donald to assume this Ministerial office.
In making this announcement, Sir Joseph stated that in many respects the work of the Customs and Commerce Uepartments were co-related, and that it was fitting that the Hon. Mr. Donaid, who had just recently become Minls,tcr°f industries and> Commerce, should also be entrusted with the administration of-the; Customs Department. . *
.'» Slv"ig effect to this change," said Sir Joseph, "it will/of course, be understood that it is made solely in the interests of Departmental convenience, and also to afford some necessary relief from the heavy burden of work which, since the formation of the present Government, has been assumed by the Hon. Mr. Taverner, whose administration of the portfolio of Customs has been of real value to the country "
