FINE WEEK-END
AFTER LOCAL THUNDERSTORM
The rise in barometric pressure ceased temporarily yesterday afternoon and evening. Scattered light to moderate rain fell in most parts of the Dominion, a drizzle setting in in Wellington at about 6.30 p.m. Between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. there was a thunderstorm which, in the Hutt Valley, was accompanied by heavy rain. At Kelburn, however, the total rainfall measured three points only, but the amount of rain which fell in the district was very variable, much more, for instance, falling across the harbour than in tho city. This morning barometers were rising again, and south-westerly winds had freshened somewhat. These winds are forecasted to veer later to the north in and south of Cook Strait. Although there may be an isolated shower or two at first, the weather is expected to improve rapidly and to remain fine over the week-end. There should be a rise in temperatures when the wind changes.
