HUTT VALLEY POWER BOARD

The monthly meeting oE the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board was held yesterday. There were present Messrs. A. W. Press (chairman), A. J. M'Curdy, A. J. Hobbs, A. Anderson, S. Blackley, H. W. Lawrence, E. Windley, L\ Stewart, A. Walker, and W. H. P. Barber. The attention of the board was drawn by the Lower Hutt Borough Council to certain poles in the borough which, were considered a danger to traffic. A reply is to be sent that the board will move the poles at the borough's expense. It was reported that a letter from the Stokes Valley Progressive Association pointing out that certain poles on the Stokes Valley road needed shifting had been sent or> to the Hutt County Council for its attention. The Petone Borough Engineer asked for an estimate o£ the cost of shifting poles consequent upon the widening of Jackson street. The estimate has been supplied. Correspondence was received from the Electric Power Board's Association and from an advertising agency regarding the proposed combined electrical advertising scheme to cost £20,000 spread over a period o£ three years. The board was asked to contribute £227 Is as its share. The matter was referred to the general manager for a report. The acting-engineer (Mr. John B. Grey) presented his report for the month ended 7th December. Figures for the month, with figures to date in parentheses, were given as follows:—Consumers connected 103 (5859); connected load, sGßk.w. (29,979). made up o£ heat 425 (19,928), power 99 (6034), and light .44 (4017); ranges installed, 37 (1020); cow plants, 3 (57); water heaters, 40 (804). Units purchased from Khandallah were greatest for the week ending Bth December, when 395,780 were taken, a 63 per cent, increase over last year's figure. The maximum demand for the pei-iod occurred at noon on Tuesday, 3rd December, when 3831 k.v.a. were taken. This was a 45 per cent, increase over last year's corresponding figure.
