DE LUXE THEATRE.
Featuring IYed Warlng'a Pennsylvanians, "Syncopation," an all-talking, singing, and dancing production, will be shown finally to-night at the De Lux,e Theatre. •■Syncopation" has a moving romance. It Is the tale of a pair of wedded theatricals, the team of Sloane and Darrel, played by Barbara Bennett and Bobby Watson, Pame and fortune unexpectedly smile upon them, and with wealth and white lights come those differences that break hearts and burst wedlocks. Villainy stalks the wife and sorrow visits the heart-broken husband when the wife takes her departure, but It all ends happily. Much of the action takes place in a cabaret, where song and dance hold away, and Fred Waring's famed Fennsylvanians jazz forth nine smashing melodious numbers. Haunting melodies are sung by Morton Downey, and the dancing of Barbara Bennett Is very fine. The cast includes lan Hunter, Morton Downey, Osgood Perkins, Mackenzie Ward, Verree Teasdale, and Dorothy Leo. Good supports are also screened, and some excellent music Is supplied by the orchestra, under Mr. L. D. Austin.
I'ast-movlng action played against the pioturesdue backgrounds of Havana and its entrancing harbour, the palm-studded open country of Cuba, and the Panama Canal, where the all-talking picture was aimed, is the outstanding feature revealed in "The Girl from Havana," which opens at the De luxe Theatre to-morrow for one week (two screenings daily, including Christmas Day.) With Lola Lane ana Paul Page, brilliant players from the speaking stage, in the leading roles, and an exceptionally capable supporting cast, tho intriguing story of a Jewel robbery In Los Angeles, and the pursuit of the swindlers on an ocean liner through the Canal to Havana by a girl detective, 1b unfolded with telling effect. Souiid and dialogue, recorded by Vox Movietone on sea and land, gives tho drama a fldolity that promises to add much in its popularity, and the clear-cut and forceful characterisations of the players reflect their stage training as much as do their voices. "The Girl from Havana" was directed by Benjamin btolofr from an original story by John Stone and idwin Burke, with dialogue by the latter playwright. In the cast supporting Lola Lane and Paul Page are such well-known players as Kenneth Thomson, Natalie Moorhead, Joseph Girard, Warren Hymer, and Adele Windsor.
