VISITING SWIMMERS

RYAN BELOW FORM

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND, This Day

The Australian and Auckland swimmers shared honours in the swimming contests at the tepid baths last evning. The occasion was a carnival controlled by the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming As. soeiation, at which Noel Byan and Owen Griffiths appeared. Tho chief event, the quarter-mile scratch race, did not realise the anticipation that it would be closely contested. Kyan, tho Australian champion, swam much below his best form, while G. Bridson's time, smin 21sec, was 4 2-ssee outside the New Zealand record he established last week. Ryan's fastest time is oinin 17sec, recorded in winning the New South Wales championship last season. It waa expected that Ryan would fully extend Bridson, but the Aucklander had the easiest of victories and won by 15 yards, increasing his load in almost every lap. Uyan swam pluckily, and mado a gallant effort to recover some of.the leeway.

Tho 100 yards scratch race, in which Owen Griffiths, 220 yards champion of Australia, was engaged, was closely contested for the greater part of the distance, but over the last .lap the Australian asserted his superiority and won by a. comfortable margin from the Auckland 100 yards title-holder, J. P. Farrell. The time was good, although 2 4-ssee outside J. W. Cameron's New Zealand record.

An exhibition of the '.ivolution of swimming strokes by Griffiths was warmly applauded.
