"AFRICA FOR AFRIKANDERS"
"Having always taken a keen inter* est in Imperial matters, I was surprise^ and shocked at the racial bitterness lit South Africa and the distinctly antiBritish feeling shown by tho Hertzog Government," said the Hon. W. H. Triggs, M.L.C. (who, with Mrs. Triggs^ arrived by the Euahine to-day from London) to a "Post" representative. On the way Home they had spent sevea weeks in South Africa. "While thera is no danger at present of secession from the British Empire, !> added Mr, Triggs, " 'South Africa for the Afrikander' is the motto of the party i« power, and Englishmen are being squeezed out of the public services, including the railways, the police, and the educational institutions, and they are being replaced by Afrikanders. The treaty with Germany effectively debars any further preference being extended to Great Britain, and there is no disposition in official quarters to encouraga] either British trade, British immigration, or the investment of British capital. This anti-Imperial spirit is shown chiefly in the Transvaal and the Orange Free State, and is strongly resented by Natal and Ehodesia, which ara thoroughly loyal to the Mother Conntry."
