P. AND T. SALARIES
GOVERNMENT'S INVESTIGATION
Officials of the Post and Telegraph Employees' Association waited upon the Postmaster-General (the Hon. J. B. Donald) yesterday afternoon in reference to the investigation the Government proposes to make into the question of the minimum wage paid employees of the Post and Telegraph Department.
Towards the end of the last session the following motion, proposed by Mr. J. A. Young, the Beform member for Hamilton, as an amendment to the motion of no-confidence moved from the Labour benches, was carried:—
"That this House recommends the Government to expedite the statutory reelassification of the salaries of employees of the State in the several Departments as each reelassification is due, and further recommends that the Government makes specific inquiries into the question of the minimum adult wages paid to its employees with a view to placing the lower-paid wageearnera on a fair and equitable basis and restoring as far as is practicable the rate loss made by those receiving a salary not exceeding £295 per annum."
The Postmaster-General informed the deputation yesterday that the matter had not yet been discussed by CabineC, btit it woujd be in fhe near £uSure. H<s assured the deputation thaiT the employees would be given facilities to enable them to be represented when the i investigation, was being made.
