ORPHEUS 1 MUSICAL SOCIETY.
To-night the Orpheus Musical Society present their final concert for the 1029 season at the Concert Chamber, Town Hall. The first part of tho programme will, bo of a miscellaneous nature, and tho assisting artists will be Mrs. T. Watson, Miss Nsaire Coster, Messrs Harry Matthew, Lea Rothwell, and Billy Harris The choir will sing two part-songs, "Sleep Gentle Lady" (Bishop) and "Welcome to May" (founded on the "Bees Wedding"), by Mendelssohn. "The Peasant Cantata," by J. S. Bach, will occupy the second part of the programme. This cantata is full of delightful chorus and solo numbers. Miss Alma CIeKK soprano, will be heard in "Happy is That Land" and "Of Flowers the Fairest," which should prove two very pleasing numbers. Mr. Ray Kemp's bass solos Include "Of the Factor You Had Best Beware," "Fifty Florins Seem a Lot," and "Good Fellows, Be Merry." This work haa never before been performed In Wellington, and has only twice previously been given irrNew Zealand. "The Peasant Cantata" was written and performed In 1742 as an act of homage to Carl Heinrich yon Dieshau on his becoming "Lord .of Manor." The libretto deals with tho rejoicings of the villagers and their congratulations and good wishes to their new lord and his wife. Many folk melodies are introduced, and most of the numbers are based on merry dance tunes. Miss Hazel Rowe. as usual, will be tho accompanist, and Mr. Harison Cook, the -conductor.
