STOLEN GOODS
FOUND IN BLOCKED SEWER
THIEVES TAKE ALARM
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "The Evening Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day. Investigations into the cause of a sewer blockage at Otahuhu on Saturday morning resulted in the discovery of a quantity of men's wearing apparel, which was stolen last week from a drapery establishment there. The building was entered through the back door, the lock of which was forced, and goods, valued at £20, were stolen.
All the articles stolen—socks, trousers, braces, handkerchiefs, and ties yexe^ recovered. The blockage occurred m the main sewer, but it was found necessary to open the manholes in other places, and in each chamber more articles were found. These had evidently floated down from the place where the goods were thrown in. It is' thought that the thieves removed the heavy steel covering from the manhole and deposited all the goods in the chamber below, fearing they might be found in their possession by the police. *
