CAPTAIN HICKSON RETIRES

Captain V. W. Hiekson, commander '«£ the "White Star liner Adriatic, who during the whole of the war time had a hazardous task while in command of ships transporting troops from Australia, has retired, having reached the age limit.
, Captain Vere W. Hiekson, who was fora number of years in the Londonyears at sea. He served his apprenticeship in "mv,» and after several years as second mate and mate in Liv erpool sailings ships, he joined the serrear™ l^ Stal" Line aW 35 years ago. For several years lie- was chart officer of the Athenian th e Vew Zealand trade under Captain C H Kempson. During the war he commanded the first Zealandic (now the Mamihns), the Medic, and the j4 c About 1920 ho transferred to the trans! Atlantic trade, in which ho has successively commanded the Arabic, Celtic -Baltic, and Adriatic. '
