3ood Acre moved -np smartly at the end of a furlong, with Glenrossie. Bating for the straight Ben .Hur just led Dancing Star ana Good Acre, vi-ith Streamer, Grecian, and' Glenrossie nest. Glenrossie came through in the straight, and won comfortably by one length' from Ben Hur, who ieat Parl by three lengths. Grecian yraa fourth, and then came Dancing Star- General Gas, Evening Hero, and Toba.ccoland -were next. GlenroßEie ran vp to hisOtaki'promise, and- after not heing particularly smart a-way /he won comfortably- Ben Hur had every chance, and was not jgood enougii. Parl and ,ToTmceo]and appeared to he nalucfcy, for' rthey finished weQ up after being amongst the last away. Grecian ran an improved Tace\ Good Acre showed pace, and Dancing jjtar -went well for five furlongs. MANAKAU HACK HURDLES. Hard Gold was at a fair price, with poor opposition in a five-horse field. Hash went out -with a good lead early, with Hard Gold last. Schorr hit the second fence, hard, and-gave second place to Callagain. Hard Gold moved up to the lead with six furlongs to go, and Hard Gold and Rash raced on terms over the last three fences, Hard Gold coining away from the last to beat Rash by six lengths. Callagain was two lengths back third, and General Wai and Schorr -were another six lengths tack. Hard Gold -was a class above this field, although Hash, who pulled np lame, made a race of it to the last fence. Schorr jumped badly. WERAROA HACK HANDICAP. Footpad, Make Up, and Elysianor were the favourites, but the dividend payers turned up in Goldlike and Dainty Ways, who were at extravagant prices. Make Up began best from Tompadonr, Footpad, Elysianor, and Dermod. Footpad, Dermod, Make Up, and Elysianor led into the back straight from le Champ, Plane, and Warzone. The field "bunched at the turn, where Footpad, Le Champ, Elysianor, Plane, and Dainty Ways led Make Up, Warzone, and Goldlike. Dainty Ways shot «nt in the straight, and Goldlike came ■ through, while Make Up was stopped. Goldlike overhauled Dainty Ways and beat her home by a head. Plane was three, lengths away third, with Pompadour fourth, and then came Make Up, Elysianor, Dermod, and Red Bank. Goldlike improved a good deal on his Otaki form, and won in good style after receiving -none the best of the start. Dainty Ways was .also responsible for quite a fair performance, for she too was not weß placed early. Plane ran a fair race, and Pompadour, for a green horse, showed up -well. Make Up was the unlucky rnnner, and but for bad luck at he turn -would have been in the money.: Footpad had every chance, and failed completely. Warzone was forced out wide all the way, and can be expected to do better. Elysianor went a fair race. MAKO MAKO HACK HANDICAP. Clarendon, Ex Dono, and Marica were practically evenly backed. A poor start saw Clarendon, Wcrata, and Grattan slow away, and Patearoa showed out first from Marica; Ex Ttond, Mandy, and Acredity. Marica led at the half-mile from Patearoa and Ex Dano, Trifli Bational 11. and Msndy close up. Mariea led into Ihe. straight from Rational IL, Ex Dono, and Acredity. TDx Dano made a belated effort to reach Marica, and failed by half a length. Patearoa was two lengths away third, with Clarendon fourth and Rational IL and Wentta next. : Marica wa« favoured by' the start, and stayed on just too well for Ex Dono, who showed just a glimpse of his old form. Patearoa ran a, fair race, but Clarendon would have been very hard to beat had he jumped away with his field. Acredity again failed after having every chance. LEVIN CUP. , Dnellcma'and The Hawk were much-bet-ter backed than Talisker and Mountain Heath: Barneses and The Hawk led down the straight from Duellona, Royal Game, Talisker, and JRoi de Val. At the six-furlong post Barneses and Royal Game led Tansker and Duellona, with Mountain Heath and The Hawk next and Discourse and Moutoa Treasury closing up. The two last improved at the half-mile, with the order of the others much the same.- ; Discourse and Mountain Heath were up handy at the turn, where Mountain Heath came -up on the rails. About '■■ a furlong from home Talisker took the j t," mt' *^lere lvas £ome scrimmaging and he almost came over. Mountain Heath tras going strongly on the rails, ' and he just failed to beat Talisker behalf, .a head. Talisker pulled hard early, but he finishfid very solidly, and his form was rather an improvement on his last effort at Ric- £ ar W. -Prfishened -up, he showed his 3es±. The performance was rather good for he was not helped by the bustling in the straight. Mountain Heath did not receive the best of passages early, bui.he nnisned well and had a lucky run on the V™, ..Kameßes went a great race, and just failed at the finish, where he caused the trouble. The Hawk pulled very hard early, and -was well beaten before the -Umii! raß readlea- Royal Game faded out m the straight... MontDa Treasury and Disconrseran op at lie turn, but could n°| eastern their effort*. Duellona also suffered by. the trouble in the straight, Mtta, itoch she might have finished third. Imperial Spark went quite a decent race. LAKE HACK HANDICAP^ Kiriana, /The Masher, and Fine Acre were well backed 5n that order. Fine Acre went a. iair race, M'DONALD MEMORIAL HANDICAP. Veronese, Banket, and Hunting Boy were all solidly backed. Banket began best from Veronese and Quantum, with Huntin gj .Boy next. So they raced to the turn, where Veronese went up to Bah'ket Veronese, finished slightly the better and beat Banket by a head, with Quantum, two lengths back, and Hunting Boy Bfs ■ , WaDlJerlust beat Peneus home Banket showed all her usual brilliancy but'she failed over the last hundred yards, and Veronese got up to beat her yuantum ran a solid race, but was just out of his.class. Hunting Boy looked light, and raced without any dash. HOKIO HACK HANDICAP. Accra and Just So were heavily backed in the best betting race of the day. Just bo, Acora, Tea Taster, and Acreline began _best Le Champ was running up to the leading division when she galloped on the heels of one and fell, bringing down Golden Shadow, over whom fell Pompadcmr J B st So was holding Acora as tney turned for home, and Tea Taster was going well. Over the last furlong Just So had the best of it, and beat Acora by a neck, with Tea Taster four lengths away £? ■ was fonrtll > aud then came Tapestry and Rasouli. The accident, in all probability, did not affect the result, for Le Champ had a good deal of leeway to make up. Just So, the half-sjster to Kiosk, now trained by d. Fryer, looked very burly and sweated profusely prior to the race. She had sprinted well a morning or so before, and | wag backed justifiably with great eonfid- , race. Acora, who was looked on as a ceri tain ty .for the event, was held quite safely s by the winner over the last furlong She fc had every chance. Tea Taster, who was! j sore, ran a creditable race. He is to go 1 out for a spell. Rasouli finished on fairly
well after beginning slowly and bi ing one of those checked by the acciderj t. The Budget reared and unseated V. Ca croll in the birdcage prior to the race. Carroll took the horse to the post, but proved unfit to ride, and The Budget to ok no part in ihe race. Kesults:— Maiden Kace, of 101) sots; -weight & .7; six furlongs.—2 GJen TLassle (E.
