ENGLISH TEAM'S VISIT
LOCAL PLAYERS SELECTED
With a view to preparing local players for the match with the English cricket team, to be played at the Basin Reserve commencing on the 13th December, two practice nets a.re to be made available at the Basin Reserve on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Wellington selector (Mr. W. S. Brice) has selected the following players for the representatives practices, which will commence to-morrow: F. T. Badcock (Old Boys), H. M. M'Girr (Hutt), J. Lamasou (Old Boys), K. C. James (Old Boys), E. M'Leod (University), W. A. Baker (Midland), R. H. C. Mackenzie (University), H. N. Lambert (Old Boys), S. Ward (Kilbirnie), W. F. Airey (Wellington), C. S. Dempster (Institute), A. M. Hollings (Wellington), H. Foley (Institute), M. Henderson (Institute), R. W. Hope (Petone), F. Warnes (Hutt), J. Fortune (Institute), and G. A. Rotherham (Petone), with T. C. Lowry and R. de R. Worker, of Hawkes Bay.
The final selection of the team to meet the Englishmen will not necessarily be made from this list of players. It is imperative, however, that the chosen players attend the practices punctually and regularly. A register will be kept of attendances at the practices, which will be in charge of H. M. M'Girr, with the selector also present to study the form of players. Another preliminary to the big match will, be the Town v. Country match, to be play-' ed next' Friday and Saturday at the Basin Reserve. There is to be no cancellation of local club matches next Saturday, the desire of the local management being to give all players as much cricket as possible in a season in which there will be more than the usual number of big representative matches. The English team is due to arrive in Wellington from Sydney on the 10th December, and the match with Wellington will be the first of the tourists' New Zealand tour. ■ ■ SATURDAY'S RESULTS.
