ENGLISH CRICKETERS

ARRIVAL IN SYDNEY

QUESTION OF BRISBANE MATCH

SYDNEY, 20th. November. The Marylebone cricketers have arrived in Sydney. They are a team of giants and impressed the onlookers, who gave them a hearty welcome. They were immediately motored to the Hotel Australia, where Mr. B. Oxlade, chairman of the Australian Board of Control, and other prominent sportsmen greeted them and expressed the hope that the tour of Australia and New Zealand would be enjoyable and memorable, and that it would have the effect of stimulating interest in big cricket. Gilligan said the team was not downhearted by the defeat by Victoria. Mr. Oxlade had a conference with Gilligan, who requested the abandonment of the Brisbane fixture. Mr. Oxlade stated this evening that ho had telegraphed to the Queensland Cricket Association along these lines,'and did not anticipate a reply until to-morrow perhaps not then. The "Sydney Morning Herald " says: If the Englishmen can field a team against New South Wales, there is no reason to expect the incidence of further casualties for not fulfilling the Brisbane fixture."

Worthington is recovering from influenza Bowley has boils on his arm. Lornford has a cut over one eye, caused by a ball from Ironmonger.*' Gillian has a slightly strained arm.
