CHEISTCHUECH, 19th Nov. At a meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Council to-night, a cablegram was received from the captain of the. English team, in which he stated that owing to the number of casualties suffered it wa3 extremely improbable that the team would be taken to Brisbane, as it was possible that if this match were played the English team would' reach New Zealand a considerably depleted side. Gilligan suggested that tha Brisbane match be cancelled. It was unanimously decided to advise Gilligan that the match must be played unless the Australian Board of Control agreed to its cancellation.
