HUTT BY-ELECTION
MR. NASH'S CANDIDATURE
The social room of the Labour Hal], Petone, was crowded with friends and supporters of the Labour candidate for the Hutt seat, Mr. "Walter Nash, last evening. Mr. Westhead, chairman of the Hutt Labour Eepreseritation Committee, presided and short addresses were delivered by Mr. Nash and Messrs. B. Seinple, M.P., and P. Fraser, M.P. Mr. Nash dealt mainly with the social and humanitarian side of the Labour Party's platform, and briefly outlined some immediate important reforms affecting family allowances, old age, widows' and invalidity pensions, and unemployment, to which he said the Labour Party would endeavour to immediately give effect.
On the motion of Mr. J. Cummings, the meeting enthusiastically resolved to support Mr. Nash's candidature, and those present pledged themselves to work for a Labour victory. All in the room handed in their names as willing to join Mr. Nash's committee. Details of organising work to be undertaken were discussed. The meeting closed with hearty cheers for Mr. Nash.
Further meetings of friends and supporters of Mr. Nash will be held in the Randwiek School, Moera, to-morrow night (Thursday) at 8 o'clock; in the Oddfellows' Hall, Lower Hutt, on Monday night next, 2oth November at 8. and in the Borough Council ChamW at Eastbourne on Tuesday night, 26th November, at the same hour.
It is expected that the opening public meeting of Mr. Nash's campaign will be held next week. In the meantime, Labour supporters will address several open-air and workshop meetings.
