RAILROAD EXPANSION

WASHINGTON, 19th November. Heads of practically all the important Eastern railroads have given a personal pledge to President Hoover to go ahead with full construction and expansion programmes without regard to stock market conditions. This was the first major development in President Hoover's effort to stimulate confidence in the business.outlook. The railroads are among the heaviest buyers of steel and their pledge therefore ensures work for the steel mills and shops and thousands of employees.
