DAMAGES AWARDED

The jury yesterday afternoon awarded John Alton £750 in respect of his claim against Frederick Charles Facer for £2323 damages for negligence arising out of the death of his wife through being struck by Facer's car. The defendant was held guilty of negligence in (a) crossing to the wrong side of the road for the purpose of overtaking another car without first ascertaining that the road was clear, and (b) failing to keep a sufficient.look-out. The jury found that there was no contributory negligence on the part of Mrs. Alton. Judgment was accordingly entered for the plaintiff for £750.
