BRITAIN'S BURDEN

FALLS BEHIND GERMANY

ONLY* THIRD IN EXPORTS NOW

LONDON, 17th November. The "Daily, Mail" states that the Board of Trade's commercial returns from foreign countries disclose the startling and disagreeable fact that Germai\ exports for the first six months of 1929, for the first time in history, exceeded Britain's, being 374 millions sterling, compared with 358 millions. German trade is rising by leaps and bounds, and Britain's is stagnant. Britain before the war was the greatest exporting country. The United States passed her in 1914, and is now first, Germany being second, and Britain third. Britain imports over. half the value of her manufactures, and she exports to Germany less than a quarter.
