Showers fell on. Saturday at various places, especially those with a westerly aspect, but Wellington experienced fine and clear conditions, although strong north-westerly winds prevailed in the Cook Strait area. "Westerly or north-westerly winds were, general on Sunday, the weather being fair and mild. Since yesterday pressure has been increasing in the north owing to the advance of an anti-cyclone over northern New Zealand. A rather deep depression, however, is simultaneously; approaching the South Island. As a consequence north-westerly winds have "become strong in Cook and Foveaux Straits, and unsettled conditions have set in over western districts. Bain, is falling in places in "Weatland. *
Moderate to strong westerly to northerly-winds are forecasted to prevail generally, gale force being reached, in places south of New Plymouth and Castlepoint. In western districts cloudy and unsettled weather, -with rain in places, may be expected, some of the falls in Westland being heavy. In eastern districts, however, mainly fair weather should still prevail. Tempec*« tures generally -will remain mild.
