AUSTRALIAN FINANCE
NEED FOR ECONOMIES
THEODORE'S DIFFICULTIES
LONDON, 14th November.' "The Times," in an editorial, commenting on the decision of Australian Loan Council against an increase in the loan programme, remarks»on the similarity in difficulties facing Mr. Seullin and Mr. MaeDonald, instancing the coal trade depression and unenrplovment. '
The paper alludes to the necessity of Mr. Theodore cutting down expenditure and increasing the* revenue, and says: "There is much in Mr. Theodore's past, especially in the handling of the finances of Queensland, which may well cause anxiety, but he is a big man and an able man, and it would not be a surprise to see him profit from past experiences."
The Times" expresses the opinion that the most urgent need in connection with the industrial problem is to restore respect for the law. It concludes by assuring Mr. Scullin that his efforts towards the promotion of the general good of the Commonwealth of -British nations will receive the sympathetic understanding for which we asked when he broadcast a speech after the formation of his Cabinet.
