REV. W. SHIRER
PRESBYTERY RESOLUTION
At the recent meeting of the .Wellington Presbytery the following resolution was put on record in appreciation of the Eev. W. Shirer: "After being in charge of the parish of St. James for 41 years, the Eev. W. Shirer has relinquished his pastorate. The-Presbytery desires to express the utmost admiration of the abundant, good, and successful work he has done. He was unflagging in the exercise of his pastoral duties, his name being a household word. His preaching, even with the lengthening years, was always fresh. His ministry in the hospital and kindred public institutions won the admiration and gratitude of -all interested. For 30 years he was clerk of Presbytery,^ and for years, including the war period,'convener of the Assembly's Chaplains Committee. He holds the long service medal for military service. Mr. Shirer'was educated in Aberdeen, and was'ordained and inducted to St. James on 18th .September, 1888. Tho call was signed by 40 members ai*d adherents. The purged Communion Eoll at the date' of his retirement is 479. Our brother carries with him into his retirement our hearty good wishes and the prayer that he and his helpmate may enjoy a long, qniet, and peaceful eventide, and that he will still find opportunities of preaching the Word. We are glad to know that he will still be a member of this court as a minister emeritus and will continue to associate himself with its deliberations."
