AGREEMENT REACHED
MUNICIPAL LABOURERS
Tor some time past negotiations have been in progress between representatives of the Wellington City Council and the executive of the Municipal Labourers' Union in respect to improvements in the working conditions of the men employed by the Corporation as general labourers, etc. These efforts were finalised yesterday by a Council of Conciliation, to which an application was made by the workers' union.
Messrs. P. M. Butler, J. Jillett, and J. Sluel acted as assessors on behalf of the workers, with Mr. H. Hauton as agent; while the City Corporation was represented by Messrs. F. N. Thompson, J. C Russell, and M. J. Casey, with Mr. B L Hammond as agent. Mr. P. Hally (Conciliation Commissioner for Wellington district) presided, and a complete agreement was arranged covering hours wages and other working conditions. The Court of Arbitration will be requested to embody the new" arrangements in an award of the Court covering a period of two years.
