FAREWELL TO GOVERNOR-

GENERAL

There was a repersentative attend* ' ance at the special meeting of the cxc- '■ eutive of the ■Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association this week, Colonel G. T. Hall (president) in. the chair. The secretary (Major J. T. Watson) reported that from the returns to hand it was evident that the "Kose Day" appeal would result in a sum in excesi of that obtained last year being available for the Association's Benevolent Fund, and that the "Women's National .Reserve, Eed Cross Society, St. John' Ambulance Association, and Wellington branch of the South African WarVeterans' Association . would each receive a substantial addition to their funds. The work of the lady collectors was highly praised, and it wagstated that many of them had attended all day at considerable inconvenience. A cordial welcome was extended to Oolonel J. Hutchen, the Eastbourne branch's representative on the' executive, Colonel Hall remarking that Eastbourne was fortunate in having such a worthy delegate. Colonel Hutchen tnanked those present for their welcome, and said he was proud to be associated with suck zealous workers in. the interests of the returned soldiers. In connection with the proposed ''Diggers' farewell" to His Excellency the Governor-General, it was explained" that what was contemplated was a brief ceremony, to be held at an; honr convenient to His Excellency, when returned men could give General Sir Charles Fergusson, (who had alwayi ftr»f * cl°s£L^west in their welfare) a suitable send-off. Gillham, and J. A. Shand was get up to arrange the details. *
