MIRAMAR'S PROGRESS

THINGS TO BE DONE

Satisfaction at the steady progress made by Miramar was expressed by the chairman (Mr. E. O.VThornton) at the 'annual meeting of the Miramar Progressive Association,'held last night in the Miramar South School. '

Miramar, said Mr.. Thornton, still needed-a great deal to be done. Many improvements, such as sewerage and footpath, formation,- were likely to be completed in a few. months. The installation of storm-water drains had interfered with the formation of footpaths. Improvements to Seatoun Heights would receive the consideration of the incoming committee.

"Drainage to include the whole of the flats is at present being installed," said Mr. Thornton, "and when completed should prove of great benefit. It is regrettable, however, that a large portion of the district-was recently flooded, due to neglect to the cleaning of the open. j drains. ' A committee was set up by the | council to inquire into the position, but |no satisfactory result was obtained,, exI ceptirig that the cleaning of the open, drains (has again ' been taken in hand land will be maintained until the instal- ! lation is completed. In connection with, the flooding, we desire to express our appreciation of the excellent service given by both the milk department and the tramway department. The sewerage drainage has-not been augmented, although an. extra compressor was promised in 1926. We are now advised that this compressor has been ordered, and when installed should overcome the back-flow which is at present prevalent in some parts of Miramar."

It was stated that arrangements were being made to • water the streets with salt water, and it was decided, in view of the urgent' need to keep the dust down in the summer months, that the City Council be asked to speed up this improvement. The need for a post office at Miramar was stressed.

The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr. E. 0. Thornton; vice-presidents, Messrs' H. Kowntree, E. Carr, >A. J. Chorlev! J. E, Weir, and G. A. Minifie; committee, Messrs. A. Clark, H. M. Patrick, A. T. Lookman, S. K. Wellwood, P J M'Carthy, T. Condliffe, and J. Townsonhon. secretary, Mr. P. E. Henn: hon' treasurer, Mr. J. S. Elliott. ■.

The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman, for his past services.
