FRUIT PROSPECTS BRIGHT
According to Mr. J. Thorp, orchard instructor at Nelson, the prospects for the coming fruit season are looking particularly bright at present. Mr. Thorp remarked that he had never seen such a universal blooming, and he did not remember a season when the circumstances had been so favourable to a heavy setting of apples and pears. The weather conditions over the spraying season had enabled this work to be carried out with the greatest facility. There was very little wind, and practically no rain during the early period, and up to the prescut time there was no dimbt that it had beeu a wonderful season. The prospects were bright, and there were likely to be bumper crops. Stone fruits had also bloomed heavily, and the prospects looked good at present, but the crop was not so easy to auticipate until after stoning time. There was, however, an almost entire absence of brown rot, which under wet conditions was always very prevalent.
