HOUSE RENTS

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—l quite understand that infoi-ma-tion supplied to. .the Government Statistician Is confidential, but surely he' could, without violating that confidence, indicate the street or district from which lie compiled his figures. There are many thousands searching for that "happy land." But why a particular street or district for such an important subject? It is obvious that Ms 2d is not an average for the whole of Wellington, while it may be for a particular group of houses. Some people who own their houses look at such a statement as a joke, but to the rentpaycr it is a nightmare.—l am, etc., J. MILLER.
