PARENTS' DAY

AT LYALL BAY SCHOOL

The class rooms of the Lyall Bay School were gaily decorated on Thursday and exhibited on all sides were samples of school work—drawings in pencil, chalk, and pastel, handwork, painting, mapping, writing, sowing, etc. Tho display is an annual one at Lyall Bay, so that parents may sco just what their offsprings do during school hours, and yesterday many of them took the opportunity and found much to interest them in the specimens of work on view. In the playground the various classes carried out physical training exercises and organised games, and the- infant pupils* entertained with dancing and singing games, recitations, and action songs, all very creditably carried out. Singing was shown to be a feature in the primary school work.

A particularly interesting oxhibit was that made by members of the School^ Art Club, the work being of a very high standard, and reflecting much credit on the students' tutor (Mr F Grono).

The Ladies' Committee of the Home and School Association provided afternoon tea and conducted produce, sweet, and book stalls, with very satisfactory results, over £21 being raised for playground improvements. Among those who visited the school during the day were Mr. T. Forsyth (chairman, Wellington Education Board), Mr. A. 0. Blake (Education Board), Mr.-X. Semple, M.P., and Mrs. Semple, Mr. E. Lomas (principal, Teachers' Training College), Mr. F. M. Kenner (principal, Eongotai Collego), and Mrs. Benner, Mr. H. M. Harris (chairman of. the local school committee) and Mrs. Harris, Mr. F. W. Boyd (president of the Home and School Association) and Mrs. Boyd, and members of the school committee and the executive of the Home and School Association.

Mr. 0. A, Banner is headmaster of the Lyall Bay School, and Miss BoberiJs is the infant mistress..
