WRESTLING
EKLTOTD DEFEATS VAN€E
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
AUCKLAND, 7th October. A wrestling contest for the light-heavy-weight championship of the world between Clarence Eklund, of Wyoming (holder of the title) and Farmer Vance, light-heavy-weight champion of Canada, ehded in the seventh round, Eklund winning by two falls to one.
Vance's impetuosness undoubtedly cost him the title. Ho secured a fall in the fifth round after making the champion groggy -with headlocks. Again in the sixth Eklund was groggy, and as he lay on the mat, Vance leapt in the air, and dived at him. Eklund moved slightly aside, and Vance landed on hiß head. He lay motionless, and was easily pinned. Eklund walked very unsteadily to his corner, while Vance had to be carried to his. Despite the use of much cold water and massage; Vance could scarcely stand when the gong sounded for the seventh, and he was an easy prey for the champion. The ending was very' disappointing to the, large crowd, with whom Vance was easily favourite.
Eklund weighs 12.6 and Vance 12.4. Tom Alley meets the undefeated Naranjan Singh next Monday night.
