DAMAGE LARGELY LOCAL

MESSAGE FROM KING

British Official Wireless.

(Received 2nd October, 11 a.m.)

KUGBY, Ist October. The Colonial Office has received a telegram from the Officer Administering the Government of the Bahamas, stating that from reports received from all the out islands, it;appears that serious effects, of the hurricane . which visited the colony have been felt only in the New Province. Though the damage in Nassau is considerable, the casualties have been very few. The situation is well in hand, and gives no cause for anxiety. ' The only relief necessary is for the restoration of housing accommodation in the' coloured quarter, and the salving of small vessels.

The King has telegraphed his deep concern tk-.t the colony has once more been ravaged by hurricane. His Majesty desires to assure all sufferers of his personal sympathy.
